The Abuse Prevention Program

Since 1986, TAPP has been addressing anger and/or violence in relationships at the Southern California Counseling Center.  The purpose of the program is to help men and women adopt a system of beliefs and values that embraces equality and mutuality within an intimate relationship.  The goal of TAPP is to prepare couples for couples counseling through self-awareness, self-care, and communication tools.

Abuse Prevention Groups

Men’s and Women’s Groups are offered weekly for 2 hours for both court mandated and self-referred clients.  Fees are based on a sliding scale.

Critical Learnings:

  • Recognize verbal, sexual, emotional, physical, and financial abuse
  • Recognize ways in which controlling or violent behavior affects partners and children
  • Develop empathy, respect, and intimacy with others
  • Learn new ways to express your wants and needs
  • Learn techniques to relax and make different choices
  • Learn to practice self-care
