“I don’t like you. I don’t like this. I’m done talking here.”
That’s how my first Men’s Anger Management group went at SCCC-Watts. I enrolled as part of a plea deal to stay out of prison. I was angry – with DCFS*, with my son’s mother for dying, with this cornball group facilitator and with this room full of men talking about feelings.
Over time, hearing about the struggles these men faced made me feel less alone in mine. I started to open up. For the first time in my life, I felt supported.
Now I teach my son: it’s not about being a man. It’s about being human.”
Tomahawk Williams completed the Men’s Anger Management program and is currently training to become a paraprofessional counselor at SCCC.

Our independence relies on you.
We believe that mental health care is a right, not a privilege. That’s why we do what few counseling centers can: provide unlimited access to counseling on a sliding scale basis.
Our volunteer model allows us to operate solely on client fees, foundation grants and support from donors like you. We are completely independent of government funding and insurance payments, so there is no agency or insurance company prescribing care, limiting sessions or creating paperwork.
Client fees do not cover our operating expenses. We count on individual donors and foundations to close the gap. We cannot do this without your support. Help close the funding gap and change a life.
Since 1966, the Southern California Counseling Center has been a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (95-2430665).
