The Karsh Family Social Service Center extends resources to all SCCC clients

The Southern California Counseling Center is collaborating with the Karsh Family Social Services Center to bring SCCC’s affordable mental health care to Koreatown.  As part of this collaboration, the Karsh Center is extending access to all of the Karsh Center’s core offerings to SCCC clients.  These resources include: Food Pantry, Dental Care, Vision Care, Legal Aid, Book Distribution, ESL and Civics Courses, and Child Care Referral Services To make use of these resources, SCCC clients simply go to the Karsh Center and let the front desk staff know that they are clients at SCCC. SCCC’s Outreach Services Annual Holiday Feast Drive is underway!

For the last 15 years, SCCC’s Outreach Services program, in coordination with CleanSlate, has organized a Holiday Feast Drive to provide support for 20 families in need during the Holiday Season. “As a community we come together to provide a Holiday Feast for 20 families in SCCC’s Outreach programs. We will be selecting 10 families from the Mid-City Center and 10 families from the Watts Community through our work with families at (WLCAC) counseling/trauma services provided by SCCC,” says Marianne Diaz, Director of Outreach Services. “How EMDR at Southern California Counseling Center Saved Me” – Melissa Monroe, former client

  On July 24th, former SCCC client Melissa Monroe hosted the 3rd annual Agastock Music Festival at The Echo to benefit SCCC's Trauma & Resiliency Training & Services program.  This year, the event raised nearly $9,500 to help ensure those in need can access these highly effective services and support.  The event also celebrates the life of Melissa's daughter, Alice Ferguson, who died just 11 days after her second birthday, due to SUDC (Sudden Unexpected Death in Children).  Melissa credits the Trauma & Resiliency Training & Services program with helping her get back on her feet after such a sudden and devastating ...

SCCC bids farewell to former Director of Development, Lizzy Beach

The staff, counselors, Board, alumni and many friends of Southern California Counseling Center, bid a fond farewell to Lizzy Beach, Director of Development.  Lizzy joined our staff for the second time four years ago and she has worked tirelessly to promote vital support of our work.  In addition, Lizzy has played a key role in the development of our strategic plan, branding and our fabulous new website (www.sccc-la.org). Her boundless energy and enthusiasm were catching for all of us and we will miss her daily presence in Room 9. SCCC’s Rage Resolution group: Counselor Rolf Danner shares his experience

Each Friday, the Southern California Counseling Center offers a Rage Resolution group to those seeking to respond without violence when faced with stressful, frustrating or unfair situations.  The group focuses on empowering participants to act as their “preferred person”, or person they’d hope to be, when confronted by difficult scenarios. 2015 Fundraiser raises more than ever before!

May 2, 2015:  an ABSOLUTELY SMASHING good time was had as almost 400 people gathered at Smashbox Studios to raise money for affordable mental health counseling at SCCC.   Many guests came to celebrate with Miriam Muscarolas and Grant Abramson, honorees, and collectively we raised over $397,000!
